1942 Gibson LG-2
Up for sale is a very cool 1942 Gibson LG-2 in overall excellent vintage condition. This guitar has clearly been well cared for throughout its life and remains a fantastic player with exceptional tone.
There are a few repairs and maintenance items worth noting. The guitar has had an upper-side crack repair that is somewhat cosmetically crude but is stable and structurally sound. It also appears to have undergone a neck reset at some point. While the workmanship is not the cleanest cosmetically, the reset is functional, solid, and the neck geometry is correct.
The guitar appears to have been refretted and plays wonderfully up and down the neck with no issues. It has a notably chunky, D-shaped neck profile that provides a substantial feel in the hand.
At some point, the finish appears to have been buffed, giving it a glossier appearance than typically seen on examples from this era, likely in conjunction with the crack repair work. Under blacklight inspection, the guitar presents well, with touch-up work visible only on the back and side repair areas.
The instrument appears to be original throughout with the exception of a later set of Kluson tuners. All interior bracing is original, as is the original bridge plate. The original Gibson rubber stamp remains visible on the head block.
As expected from an 80+ year-old instrument, there are numerous small nicks, chips, dings, dents, and other superficial cosmetic blemishes throughout, all of which can be seen in the photos.
This LG-2 has a special voice with the dry, responsive tone that has made these wartime Gibsons so desirable. It comes with an aftermarket case.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or requests for additional photos.
