1950s Gibson LG-1 Converted to LG-2 Specification
Up for sale is a very cool 1950s Gibson LG-1 that has been professionally re-voiced and converted to LG-2 specifications. This conversion has dramatically improved the guitar's tone, responsiveness, and overall performance.
Work performed includes:
new Adirondack Spruce top
5/16" scalloped forward-shifted X-bracing pattern installed
5/16" scalloped tone bars added
Correctly sized head brace, finger braces, and bridge plate installed
Small maple bridge plate fitted
All back braces re-glued
Maple center reinforcement spine added to the back, similar to original LG-2 construction numerous back cracks have been sealed and cleated
Original tuners with replacement plastic buttons that have been added
Complete refret
New bone nut and saddle
Replacement Brazilian Rosewood bridge made and glued accordingly
Neck reset performed, restoring proper geometry and playability
Guitar does have lots of little cracks on the back that have been mended back together as
you will notice from the photos that I've provided
Guitar has also had a new replacement tortoise celluloid lacquer in Pick Gard made for it
The guitar body has been completely refinished with nitrocellulose aged lacquer to match the rest of the instrument. The neck angle and overall geometry are now excellent, making this instrument a joy to play.
The LG-2 conversion has made a remarkable difference in both tone and projection. It is lively, responsive, and sounds fantastic.
Cosmetically, the guitar shows honest vintage wear, including numerous small nicks, chips, dings, dents, and other superficial blemishes consistent with a well-played 1950s instrument.
The guitar includes an aftermarket case.
